Painting Aluminum Exhaust

Is it safe to spray paint an aluminum exhaust when looking for the cheaper way out?

With a high temp stove paint or equivelant. Mine was Rustoleum high temp stove paint I believe, good for 1200*. Your local hardware store will have cans for 3-4 bucks. shouldn't need more than two.
