Replacing E4OD third time
I happened upon this great site the other day and signed up immediately

I am a mechanic for a construction company with 2 '97 PSD's, both with the E4OD. From what they have told me 1 of the trucks has had 3 replacement tranny's, and the other 1 I am in the middle of diagnosing its second replacement. This one lost reverse, and makes and awful grinding noise in forward. Before I decide to remove and rebuild this unit, I have been reading in here about others "BEEFING" up this trans. I would like to know more about what's needed. Draining the oil, I found exceptionally clean oil, no debris in the pan, and without cutting the filter apart, it is clean as well. The boss claims he can get a "NEW" unit from the dealership for $1200.(good friend with parts manager). Any input would be greatly appreciated.

well short of getting a BTS tranny for them both at $3800 each (these trannies don't break and if they do Brian will take care of it even after the 2 year warantee from what I hear), an upgraded toque converter and a BTS valve body would be good money spent. I highly doubt any ford tranny is $1200 but if they can I would at the very least get a better TC and a valve body or a trans-go tugger shift kit.

I doubted the price too. I am looking at BTS now. thanks for the info.
These trucks are more often than not, hooked to a trailer with a skid steer or mini excavator. These trucks are worked.
