I still can't figure out the sound that I hear everytime I'm driving?
I thought was the carrier bearing or differential, but neither is the cause of the sound. I explain the best I can what I hear when driving only, not in neutral, only when in gears, it's not a metallic or spinning sound, is a dull Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, coming from below right under the seat
I can probably compare the sound like a small hole in the muffler, I don't know
how can I explain it better??
Anyway isn't metallic to me sounds like a bunch of marbles going around a wooden box, Yeah I know it sounds stupid, but it's not easy to explain.
And also I feel the vibration under the gas pedal, the truck is stable no vibrations. My guess is got to be something in the bell housing, something is dragging, but what?
The throw out bearing sounds normal when depressing the clutch with a normal spinning sound which ol rangers have.
Anyway, I welcome your comments!
Any chance the noise goes away when you put it in fourth?
No, is there too, but two things I did notice.
One is that first gear brings the sound louder than the rest, and if I don't give gas the noise dissapears? but you will hear it every time you push the gas pedal.
#2 If the truck is in gear and you don't give it gas the sound stops or you just can't hear it.
Cats anyone????????????
Almost sounded like your lugging the engine, but if it happens at any vehicle and/or engine speed it cant be that. How long had it been since the last fluid change b4 this fresh one? What color was the fluid? Any metal shaving or flakes in the fluid?
And did it suddenly start making this sound or has it come in over time? Did you use the correct fluid?
I got this truck a month ago used with 75k miles, so I'm doing ol kind of maintenance. The funny thing I took the truck to two different trany shops, one was scam Auto trany, and the other one AAmco.
The guys at AAmco couldn't hear anything, they removed the differential cover drained the old oil and reffil, they found nothing wrong in the fluid "no metal pieces", and everything inside the diffe. was normal wear, all the teeth
gears were OK.
On the other hand the Scam Auto transmissions, told me I need to repair the diffe, cuz it was bad and dangerous to brake and could it lock the wheels,
I swear that's what they told me.
Are you suprised? It's all about the $$$ these days. No different than Jiffy Lube or any place like that.
If it was doing it when you got it, you may have a serious problem on your hands, such as the previous owner putting the wrong fluid in at some time. No real way to diagnose it not being there in person.
I know this sounds ridiculous, but can you "feel" the noise in the shifter?

Thank you guys for ol the replies,
When I drained the trany fluid it was almost black, no metal particles.
Ooo...black fluid. In a stick? Wow I am impressed. Do you know what the previous owner did with the truck? Do you still have the fluid? If so, does it or did it smell burnt?
Black fluid typically results from excessive heat and is normally associated with overworked autos...not often manuals have that issue.
Since you went to new fluid...I'd suggest getting some of that Lucas treatment and getting it in there, that stuff supposedly works wonders. Might do the tranny some good to flush it out completely anyways.
I'd definetly say the previous owner wore it out good though.
It's a 5spd manual!
And how the guy at two different trany shops can't find the damn thing if it's the trany?
the previous owner was a lazy jack ***, I think the only thing he did to the car was changing the motor oil, the guy who sold the truck to me had the truck for just a year he put about 25k in one year,.
Anyways I'm taking the truck back to AAmco tomorrow, and hope this time they can hear the freaking sound!
