360/429 build & swap

I just bought a 68 F100 to drive while I re invent my 56 Olds. I was thinking about re stroking the 360 back to a 390 but. The guy that sold me the truck gave me a 68 429 Thunderjet. Everybody is running a 360 or 390 so why not build the 429 and drive the truck until its done?.
I dont know much about these pups because ive been into Olds Rockets. Ive been told all I need to do is increase the stroke on the 429 with 460 rods and I have a 460. Is it that simple?. What about pistons and bore, cam, valvetrain, heads, intake and carb and mounts? I am looking for a strong engine in the low to mid RPM range but a efficent highway cruiser. Thanks

Try changing the crank, changing rods will never stroke a motor. FYI, the 429 and the 460 use the same rods. The deck height is changed with pistons.
