Cool Trans Fluid Leaking From Bellhousing

I pull a 13000 pound trailer alot when i just unhooked it off the truck i noticed fluid all over it so i looked under the truck and it was all over the underbody of the truck so i moved up closer to the tranny and saw it was comming out of the hole at the bottom of the cover where the tranny and moter meet this is the 2nd tranny for the truck but first time this has ever happened so if any body has ever had this happen or know what is going please let me know the also the trans is shifting fine if that would help

Have you recently checked your fluid level? Also, do you know what your trans temps were when pulling the trailer? Trans fluid expands as it heats up, and if you got your fluid really hot it may have puked some out.

Unfortunately, I think John311t has it right. I tow a 14K trailer, and learned the hard way that the tranny over heats very quickly if you back your trailer up a grade. However, the over flow vent is on top of the tranny, and the fluid runs down all over the outside of the tranny. Your fluid is coming from the TC cover where the main pump is located. Since you're on your second tranny, you need a temp gauge.

I agree that it expanded. Right out of the front pump. Puking would not expell that much. What does the level look like??? Smell?

You might want to look under the hood and check the engine valley to see if you have a oil or fuel leak. It will run down the rear of the engine block and look as if it coming from the trans.

Had The Same Happen To Me About Two Weeks Ago, Only Mine Was Just Dripping A Little. Decided To Fix It Before It Got Worse. Personaly I Would Go Ahead And Replace The O-ring And Gasket On The Oil Pump At The Same Time. You Have To Pull The Trans Pan And Filter To Get The Pump Out So Your Tranny Will Get Serviced At The Same Time.

The same happened to me. I decided to ride it out and it cost me a rebuild (I should have kept a better eye on fluid). The tranny shop I took it to said there is a Ford notice out that the tranny coolers are too small and has the potential to overheat. He added three coolers to mine while rebuilding and had him install shift kit (after all said and done $1800). I would get it fixed ASAP. Good luck!

Keep checking the fluid to be sure it is up to level. Do NOT allow it to get low or bye bye trans.

I let it go for a summer but had to add some (1/2 quart or so) of fluid between driving. I don't tow a lot so I can't tell you how much fluid you would lose. I did notice it would leak while stopped, did not notice any while driving. Temps only got to around 150-160* and it would start to pee a little. I would imagine it would depend on how bad the seal is. Hope this helps.
