So I bought a 1996 F150, had some issues, and now Im replacing the transmission. So my question is should I use synthetic or just regular? I am using this truck as a daily driver/hauler and for 4x4 use. Any input would be great. Just please remember I am doing this myself, Im used to electrical problems not transmission.
well seeing that its a 96 it has the e4od tranny i would run synthetic with a tranny cooler that would be good for all around driving 4x4 and hualing but the bad thing with runing synthetic is the cost you will need close to 15 quarts and at 4 dollars plus i use regular with lucus atf trement
yea u can do the same thing as what i said for the e4od and i would. i just bought a new 93 f150 with the c6 tranny and im going to put on the tranny cooler and new atf with lucas atf stuff
Ya'll think it's weird to have an aode in a 96?I have a 95 with an AODE they quit the AOD's in 91...just wish mine had the E40D......I used B&M full synthetic trickshift when I changed my fluid...and it hasmade a difference....although I did add a quart of Valvoline ATF Mercon/Dextron.It'sreally your choice..the Synthetic ran me around 6 bucks a quart but my tranny shifts better and runs cooler....oh yea...and it's blue...pretty cool stuff.
a good investment is the biggest cooler you can get on there. I like the ones that have a thermostat so your trany can warm up in cold weather. a trans. temp gage isent bad ether if you pull heavy lodes
I use motorcraft ATF and change it way more often than they suggest. but I operate in extreme conditions.
The AODE was never put in a truck, cars only.
What you have is a 4R70W (or AODE-W) Transmission, Ford started put them in trucks in 1993. The last year for the AOD was also 1993.
I would never and have never put an after market junk additive in my transmission just put in the Mercon V fluid that it calls for.
