The 08 has a different controller on it. I don't think you'll have that problem (unless your trailer has "surge" brakes)

Good, I hope everything will be OK, I thought the other posts were on 08 models..
After all the troubles with my 07, I was hoping for a trouble free 08
Thanks

Had similar problem more than once on my 05 F250. The trailer disconnect message would come and go (the lights would still work) and eventually stay with no trailer brakes. Every time it turned out to be a short in the trailer, usually inside the brake drum.

Two of the trucks in this thread with the problem were in fact '08's. The common issue for both of them may be the aftermarket installed in bed receptacle.

When our Fontaine bed was installed, because we tow a fiver exclusively, we specified that we wanted the in bed receptacle activated and the bumper receptacle deactivated.

Wiring Fault on Trailer

Have a 2008 F450. Had the same message. Dealership at first insisted it was not a problem in truck. Took it to an RV maintenance garage to check my wiring for my fifth wheel hitch. No problem. Went back to dealership where they apologized as there is an issue (can't remember what they called the "bulletin" from Ford) with water getting into the trailer hitch receptacle, not the fifth wheel receptacle. They refunded the money that they had charged me for the initial code testing and said that Ford did not, as yet, have a "fix" for the problem. They suggested that I keep checking periodically as there will, eventually, be a fix for this problem. In the meantime, they cleaned out and dried the receptacle and the wiring to it, and the annoying message and beeping has stopped for the time being. It may appear again at some point but I'll keep taking it back to the dealership to get them to keep cleaning it out until they get "the fix" resolved. Bottom line...there is a bulletin about this problem and they are working on a fix.

I too, tonight on the way home, began getting this message. This was a first for me....I have a little over 5k on the truck, have towed on 4 different ocassions with out issue.

Like the others, only when I touched the brake pedal??? WTF???

This truck has sat for the last week and prior to tonight NEVER saw this error....The only commonality to the others with this issue is that it rained heavily last night. Although while driving tonight the roads were completely dry......and it only began appearing the last 9 miles of a 35 mile round trip.

I plan on using my truck tomorrow to run to work and will see if the message still appears.

Hope there are no issues, will be leaving 6-30( I hope) from here in PA for 2 weeks in Myrtle Beach with our 5th Wheel.

Put the truck into Ford Wednesday. They are going to keep it until they fix it. While driving the 350 miles home, the wiring fault message came on only about 6 times EVEN THOUGH IT RAINED 3" TUESDAY NIGHT!! It's not the rain, water intrusion into the plug, or anything but a wiring short, pure and simple. Maybe not so simple to find, but that's got to be it. No, it's not the aftermarket plug. I eliminated that problem in the very beginning.

Now, the cruise control works intermittently. The truck still bogs down, then surges and when I got the cruise to work, the truck bogged down from 75 mph to 68, then surged back up to 75.

I'm driving a Ford Edge off their lot until they fix mine. God I hope it's soon.

Today I crawled under an took the Factory tailer connection apart...... To my suprise, it was full of water.

I took the metal bracket down and pulled the large round connection apart, that is where the water was.....

I then took the truck for a ride and the wiring fault message was gone...I guess that was the problem!

I then took some bow string wax (the type applied to Archery strings) pulled it across the female side to form a bead of wax on the inside the plug. When pushed together it acts somewhat like an o-ring seal. Then on the back side of the plug I filled up the area around where the wires go into the plug with liquid electrical tape, sealing the back side.

I hope this solves the issue, at least I know now what was causing my fault message.

I have a set of F-350 4x4 blocks at home that I took off to lower mine. If you want a pair of the taller blocks PM me we can work something out.
