Should I buy a 2003 6.0L PSD Excursion?? 6.0L have issues?
Currently own a 1998 Expedition with a 4.6 (Wayyyy to small) that has about 200K miles on it.
I am considering a 2003 Ford Excursion Limited 4X4 with a 6.0L PSD. It has about 55K miles.
I need the power to pull a 25 ft Sea Ray (9K lbs) and the room for 3 small kids, 2 dogs + cargo.
I have just read about some issues with the 6.0 PSD in 2003/2004 . Are they true?
Is this an ok purchase or should I look for something different?
What should I look for on a Diesel that I wouldn't on a gasser?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have an 03 6.0L EB edition that I bought used (72k mi). I now have 79k on it and it is doing well. I put MBRP, AirRaid, and Edge Platinum on it. It has developed a small fuel leak somewhere on the engine but haven't found the source yet. Towed 8k lb travel trailer last week (70-75 mph) and got 11.5 mpg. Normal driving is 18-20.

I have a 2003 PSD 6.0, the turbo did go out at 62,000. It cost me $100 to get it fixed, no other problems before or after, and it now has 70,000.
The 6.0 maintenance is a litte more than the 7.3 (fuel filters and oil filter)
6.0 gets better mileage - or mine does anyway, same driving on both.
I like the torque shift transmission on the 6.0.
My 7.3 X had 101,000 miles on it, the only thing that was changed on it was the front rotars, it still had the factory batteries - I bought it in Nov 1999 and traded it off in Jan 2005.
A v-10 will pull for you, but mileage would be bad.

I have a 2003 EB with the 6.0 and the torqshift. I bought it in 2004 with 6k and currently have 55k. I avg. 18-21 on the freeway which I feel is pretty good from a 4 wheel drive truck that weighs as much as it does, ask anyone that has a large burb if he gets that kinda fuel mileage! This thing will tow just about anything you put behind it, I currently tow a 29' travel trailer weighing about 9k with no problems...hope this info helps you decide to get the best SUV in the world!

Well I got rid of my 03 limited with a 6.0, it had 115k on it spent 5 months in the ford shop then they said it was first the FICM, then the high volume oil pump. Had 3 injectors replaced, I would stay away from the 6.0 If I were you. I traded mine in on a 03 limited with a 7.3, smooth sailing, just change the oil in it.

I too have an '03 6.0 - I absolutely love this truck. Only had the bottom air duct of the turbo replaced because of a crack from the intense heat these things put out. I also installed a Painless Performance module on it last year when I first got it. Not much on the highways will outrun or out-pull this one... and best of all, when I stay outta the throttle, the milage is an average of 18.6 - I cant complain

I have one of the very first 6.0's in a X limited 4x4 with 52,000 miles with no notable issues. Great room, better mileage than a smaller suv and tows whatever you have.
Find out the service history as what was done under warrenty. My Ford dealer explained that in these earlier 6.o's did have some issues, but they show up early. Check out the 6.0 forum and look for Beachbumcock, he has the same truck with no problems.
