Well she's at about 160,000 and we've decided it's about time for plugs. Fleet miles go too quick! Does everyone here give their E350's a body lift when pulling the plugs? I had a heck of a time just getting to the back two. Any and all tricks available are welcome!
Don't tell me everyone's still running the original Motorcrafs in fear of pulling aluminum threads out with them. There's gotta be some takers on this.
Hell no we highly recommed changing them 50~60 thousand miles or every three years
You post is a tad confusing is why no takers
You have a older E350 with high milage and it sounds like you had fun changing all 10 plugs already...what tips could all us V10 owners give you that you don't already know...?
The first thing I do when replacing plugs on an E van is to remove the front seats. It makes it way easier to get the doghouse in and out and gives you lots more working room.
I always thought that those would be the easiest to do in a van...
Ya those are the first 2 that i started with and thats as far as I've gotten after one massively split/bloody knuckle and headache. The hardest thing is just getting the wiring harness pulled out of the way to where I have room to pull the coils out. I've still got the other 8 to get out.
160K and just now changing plugs? Get a cutting torch!!! lol!
Well this is one of our transportation fleet vans and it has run so good that we've had no reason to pull the plugs...out of sight out of mind kinda thing. One of the first two coils that we've pulled out tore the rubber boot off in the head so we'll be getting one coil so far but we've gotta few in stock luckily. I'm just wondering if any/all of you guys lift the body at all to do this. We attempted to lift the body but the body bolts were spinning the the body channel so we cannot remove the nuts w/o pulling up the carpet and getting to the access holes that we are assuming are there. This is the second v10 we've put plugs in and the last one we did with w/o lifting the body. Just looking for any tricks available. I know the obvious about soaking everything down with penetrant and pulling the plugs when cold but i'm looking for like body tricks or anything at all!! This is costin me blood pressure!!
You can always buy new boots without the coil attached, by the way...
Sorry, I can't help you with the logistics of body contortions required to get those things out
I did my Superduty F250 laying on my stomach on the radiator support and grill... not fun, but relatively painless.
Like Dave (Racerguy) said, take out the seats. And, remove all you can from the front of the motor. Air box, whatever. It might take 15 extra minutes to remove stuff that you wouldn't normally, but it'll save time everywhere else, far exceeding that 15 minutes
Any chance you can disconnect the wiring harness enough to move it out of the way all at once? Be careful, we've heard of fuel injector connectors breaking when they age...
