Oil Pump Pickup for a rear sump pan?

Here's what should be a simple question, but I can't seem to find the answer.

I'm rebuilding a 460 for my '93 F350 4X4. After all the usual machining etc, I've got the short block pretty much reassembled but I can't find the right oil pump pickup to use with a rear sump oil pan?! According to Federal Mogul's website, part number 224-14257 should work for all 90-97 7.5L engines. But when I try it, it's way too short (I'm using Federal Mogul's oil pump (224-41144)). I called their tech line and they said that I need the longer pickup designed for rear sump oil pans (used on 4X4's), part number 224-14234. The problem: they discontinued making it! The local Ford dealership parts guy says that his computer only calls for one oil pump pickup which is the one that I found was too short. I called Melling and asked them for theirs (part number 84DS2) but it didn't fit either. My local parts guy wondered if my pan might not be stock, but I bought it as a direct OEM replacement part and it looks identical to the one already on my truck?!

Anyone else run into this problem? Anyone know who sells a rear sump pickup that will work for me?

I know there are at least two different length pickups other than the front sump, I have one of each, the longer one has a part number of E4HE-6622-CA I got it off of ebay a few years ago, the other shorter one is from a motor I bought that had more of a center type sump pan from 1985, figured it was a van engine. I think you need the longer one like you said Hope it helps..got them both sitting in front of me so I know the number is correct

I ran in to the same problem with mine. After much research I found a ford part number for the pickup tube that was suppose to be with my pan. e4tz 6622 a. Put that number in and it took me to a pickup tube that none of the auto parts have or even show. By the way I called them and gave them the oem part number and they said nothing comes up. Got mine on order and l will let you know for sure soon. Hope this helps someone I have struggled with it for a month.
