Gas Guage
I have recently purchased an old 85Ford F-150 out of a cow pasture. I rebuilt the Motor (300 st 6) and have it running, every thing works but the gas guage.Before I tear into it to try and find the problem, I was wondering if any of you had any tips or information on exactly how it is supposed to work and what all it consist of?

is it dual tank or single?? it's more likely sending unit in tank that the gauge itself. also on those old trucks the float is metal and have been known to get pin holes in them, filling the float with gas and weighing it down so it always reads empty. first thing i would do is get a tester and see if you have power at the sending unit on the tank, check connections for corrosion and/or rust. if you have power going to the unit but the gauge doesn't move then next step i would do it pull the sending unit out of tank.

It is a single tank, I plan on pulling the bed so it is easier to get to. I have felt around up there and the connections seem to be made, I can not see if there is any rust or corrosion though. I have purchased a hayes manual but it is limited on literature in this field. How much voltage should I have going to the sending unit? I was under the assumtion that it was an ohm reading back to the gauge!
