1949 F1 6 Cyl Upper Radiator Hose Search

I am looking for a correct upper hose for this truck. It now has a flex hose installed and it doesn't fit correctly or look right. I have done quite a bit of looking on line. Anyone out there have any sources you'd wish to share. I'll gladly cut down a hose for another application if it has the correct size ends and shape,
Thanks in Advance,
Tony

There was no made to fit hose originally. Parts book states:

Cut to fit from 51A-8333-A. Ford Obsolete stores carry this hose, which is a heavy multi-ply smooth flex with a cloth core sandwiched between the inner and outer layers of rubber as original.

Original 1951 Ford truck upper hose with a flathead 6: I.D. = 1 1/2" / Length: 11 7/8"

1949 Ford F1 Upper Radiator Hose Search

I got the upper hose from NPD yesterday and it is a piece of straight hose. In looking at the parts diagrams I see that there should be a metal elbow with straight hose at either end. This assembly has been replaced on this truck with a flex hose. Does anyone here know of a single curved hose from some other application that will go from the thermostat housing to the radiator? I will be going to my local parts store to look through the hose dimensional listings to see what I can find. Thanks for any help,
Tony

There was no curved hose originally. Ford made a special three ply flexible straight hose 51A-8333-A or 51A-8333-D (depending on application) with a cloth inner core. Cut to fit. That's all there was. This is not the type of flex hose used today. The outer ply of the 51A hose has a sort of rough texture to it. There are no "ribs." This is the same type of upper hose used for all flathead 4, 6, V8 or Lincoln Zephyr V12's from 1928 thru 1953.

If someone does make a moulded hose, I'm not aware of it...but there should be a Ford Obsolete store in your area (Kanter is in NJ), and Joblot is in NY, maybe they know of something else. Also try Hemmings.

1949* F1 Upper Hose Search

I must appologize to this forum. This morning I went to a friend's shop and looked at a 1949 ford sedan with the flathead six. It appears that the radiator in the truck I am working on has had the radiator replaced with one where upper hose nipple comes out horizontally rather than the correct 45 degree angle. I have gone to the parts store and found a Dayco molded hose from which I can cut a section that will yield the hose that I need. Sorry for the trouble that I put this group to and I thank you for your kind responses. Once I have successfully replaced this hose I will post the part number in case anyone else runs into this problem. Thank you all again for your help,
Tony

The hose in the members gallery looks just like 51A-8333-A same design, same texture.
