Chevy Outsells Ford

Anyone see the February sales figures? Ain't pretty. Chevy Silverado - 58,696 trucks sold, up 26.5% from '06. Ford F-150 - 55,251 trucks sold, down 12.1% from '06. Of course, that's only one month's total and hopefully isn't a sign of things to come. Ford might have to offer deep discounts and play the rebate game to hang on to No. 1. The new truck coming in '09 has got to have the knockout punch to put Ford comfortably back in front.

Its a new model truck. thiers probly been a few chevy fans waiting for the new body style to be released for a while now, so im gussseing that its gonna out sell ford for a few monthes and then thier sales will probly slow once the truck just gets old and boring. But my god is that truck ugly (the '07 chevy). I like the front grill on it but the flared fenders are too much and it totally kills the look of the truck.

I've heard nothing but good things about it, but I have a couple issues with it.

Have you ever seen one in person? Notice how low the front spoiler is to the ground? On a 4x4 truck, the front bumper isn't even 5" from the ground. Seem to be sacrificing everything for fuel economy.....

I've noticed that as well. Even in there own commercials when they show the truck going through the mud, the front plastic piece on the bumber is plowing mud. Wait till that thing hits something hard.

The Chevy is a new design, the Ford has been out for several years. What do you expect? No doubt once the '09 Ford comes out, Ford will be solidly on top again. You are right though, Ford needs to get it right or else they will be in serious trouble.

Yeah but chances are that most people arent gonna take it off road and would benefit more with having the low bumper for fuel effiecency.. if they are that serious about off roading they'd prolly get a lift kit anyway.

Although it will be a bad day for the guy that doesnt realize how low that front bumper is until it's too late and he has to have it replaced...

I must say that I am a bit disappointed. This does not sound good for Ford trucks. Does anyone know when the last time Chevy trucks outsold Ford trucks in a month? IMO, Ford has a long hard uphill fight ahead of them. I think that recent video on you tube with the guy from "Truth about Trucks" nit picking the Tundra angered many people. Also a recent recall on the 2008 SD's and the recent Ford/International dispute does not help matters. Lets not forget that the horse power numbers for the optional engines in the competition's half tons are getting rediculous. I can recall the days about 15+ years ago when both the big block 460 and 7.3 diesel were making a little over 200 horses and yet were more than adequate for getting the job done in the heavy duty class. Many of us Ford guys may have been snickering at the style of the new Silverado, but the fact is now that there are probably more people who like than hate it. I really hope things pick up for Ford. I would hate to see them lose their 3 decade old sales lead title. I personally like the current line up of the F-series, but more and more people seem to be thinking different.

When they buy a new vehicle, most people want it to look different that their old one so the neighbors will know they got a new one. They don't want to spend 30-40K and have thousands of vehicles in their town that looks just like theirs.

Except for my truck, I always buy used and buy something that looks similar to vehicles currently made. 99% of the people don't know the difference between my $6,500 Towncar and a new one or the difference between my $7,000 Escape (paid $9,000 4 years ago) and a new one. If you buy a nice vehicle and keep it really clean, nobody knows the difference. People ask me if my 04 F-150 is a new 07 so why would I buy an 07?

I don't wonder why Ford's sales are down.

Many people buy new based on front end styling alone. Remove the brand name, then show these people a picture of the rear of their car, truck, or suv...and prolly 90% wouldn't know what make or model it is.

I agree. Up untill the current body style F-150 came out, I had people thinking that my '99 F-150 was brand new. Most of them were amazed when I told them it was a '99 with over 100,000 miles on it.
