460

There's a lot of talk about the toy engines, please don't forget the real ones Ford made. The 460 in my 97 is awesome. SD on both my 460s (5spds) is absolutely trouble free, but the simplicity of the MAF system is really intriguing. Ford only had it available on the HD 460s in CA in 97.

Conversion

I have a 1990 F-150 5.0. I am planning on doing the Maf Conversion. Here is what I have- Mustang A9L, Complete Mustang underhood wiring harness, Mustang MAF, all from an early 90's GT. Going to the JY to find a Y-pipe. Now with all that said, I have seen and read all kinds of info that I understand and also confuses me. I wish there was a step by step procedure for doing what I'm doing with Junkyard parts. Is this thread dead?

The problem with doing a detailed writeup is it would have to be different for each engine/trans/PCM combo and if you wanted accurate wire color codes it would have to be different for each year as well. Overall there are just too many possible combinations so that's probably why nobody has tackled it, and IMO I don't think it's necessary anyway, there is enough info contained in this forum for anybody to get it done with some specific help from others that have already done it if necessary. The good new is that no matter what EFI truck you have to start with most of the wiring you need for a MAF conversion is already there and it doesn't need to be touched for the most part. The simplest way to go about a conversion is to get a donor SEFI harness and disect it to remove the sequential injector and MAF wiring portions as complete as possible meaning all the way back to the EEC connector, then wrap these up in loom and tape to create a little overlay harness and add that to what's already in your truck. To do that you will need the wiring pinout for whatever PCM you're using, if it's a truck PCM you just have to add the sequential injector and MAF meter wires to the stock connector, but if it's a car PCM(Mustang/CougarTBird) some additional wires have to be moved along with installing the extra injector and MAF wires. The EEC connector comes apart to facilitate moving and adding pins so the hardest part of this is simply gonna be working in the cramped quarters under the hood, but if you minimize the work necessary as I have suggested I don't think this will be so bad. If anybody has any specific questions about this send me a PM, I'll do my best to help you out with your project.

I do have a question, about the computers to use, I have a 94 Bronco with speed density, later in 94 they made a MAF version with a HUG2 Comp. would that do the same thing, of course with the MAF meter and rewired injectors?

Guy, start at page 1, an read thru this entire thread. You're questions should be answered. Or do a search for MAF conversions.
