Yes this is an old thread but years ago I was very into this! Has anyone else done this and have any good results?? I had some good luck and picked up about 3.4 MPG.Maybe this thread died in 2008 when fuel was at a super low but now its back up there and this may be something to get back into!
I spend a lot of time on this thread also. Don't know if my pictures are still around. I never was able to extend the tests for long enough to show any results. The 7.3 was sold just before fuel prices went through the roof.
I too remember it. It's just too easy to add 4 gallons of waste oil to a tank and then top off with diesel. It's like picking up 3-4 mpg and lowering cost by 21%.

That's what I do. The most sensible recycling I know of.
Not the greatest thing for your motor and IP but my engine already has 380+k on it so i ain't too worried.
I also spent a fair amount of time collecting and organizing the info in this thread but there are so many interesting tangents, I started to break it down into chapters, then thought it would work better as a mini website with navigation, then.... ran out of time.
If the information on this site isn't considered privledged, what about posting my efforts on a wiki and letting other people work on it too? Maybe it'd get 'done', or at least kept up to date.

True, oil is oil, but Waste oil has heavy metals in it from the application is was used in. With the Tempatures and pressures you must be running, it would be nice to know the long term wear you find if the engine is dissassembled one of these days.

Do you do any kind of filtering either with a filter or just letting it settle and take it from the top? Maybe you could make a large centrifuge and spin it to separate the sediment. Can you tell any difference in performance? Or smell?
I passed a frito lay route truck a few weeks ago and i SWEAR it smelled like potato chips lol
