work, work, work...
So what does everyone here do for work? I work for Grant County PUD at Wanapum Dam, I'm an HMA (Hydro Maintenance Assistant) so I work with the journeyman hydro mechs on different projects around the hydro project. I'm also a volunteer firefighter for the Ephrata Fire Dept. Let's hear about everyone else!

I play with fire and electricity.............
Er, I weld. Actually just got my WABO card in December, so now I am all certified. I also have a small 4x4 shop at home, just starting out, I am trying to build an example vehicle but due to my previous landlord that's been pushed back about 14-18 months.

ME MAKE BIG SPARKS. I've been doing field service with different divisions of General Electric since 2000. Everything from 5 kw portables to 550 MW STAG Units (steam and gas turbine on a common shaft). I'm a prime mover specialist. Right now I'm finishing setup on 2, 2.5 MW turbines at the Birla Nifty Copper Mine in Pinbarra, Great Sandy Dessert Western Australia. Done Wind turbines to with the guys out in Minnesota and Colorado also so I'm just a jack of all trades and master at none. My avitar is actually me on the catwalk in Nigeria moving a turbine rotor for a 201100 HP/150 MW unit driving a gas compressor in a gas liquification facility.

Mike S. - yo I used to work at Wanapum dam too, kind of. In college I worked as an intern for one of the engineers at that Grant County outpost by Wanapum. The engineer was overseeing the upgrade of the dams' turbines, and I tagged alongside him and learned about the treacherous relationships between Grant County PUD and ABB, the contractor. We'd go to both Wanupum and Priest Rapids dam for inspections and whatnot. I lived in Ellensburg during that summer. I really like that part of Washington State. For me the area around Vantage is a special place. I grew up in Spokane, but these days I live in New Jersey.

sweet dude, ya ABB thats Asea Brown Bavaria, or something like that, right? now we have Voith Siemens making all our new turbine parts and Weld-Mart (some kind of subsidiary, to Voith, I think) installing the liner, and reshaping the bottom of the draft tube, we do the rest, its pretty interesting. you can check out alot of whats going on at www.wanapumdam.com i think tey have the powerhouse cameras running right now, maybe not. what year(s) did you work down at the project?

Yea, Asea Brown Bavari or something like that. I worked the summer of '89 - man that sounds like a long time ago, but feels like it was just yesterday. Thanks for the link -- some cool pictures and information, especially about the new state of the art turbines being installed. Enjoy Washington State -- I miss it alot.

That's good most of your county missed it, there's enough problems being a homeowner other than roofs blown off
Had to clear the road twice here, no power two days, the fireplace was good 'n toasty. It was strange how the ice and snow bent the softwood trees far over sometimes 90 degrees.
While I bucked, Donna was dragging brush. One branch at a time.
"Where does this go?"
"The burn pile!" {doh, i thought to myself)
"How about this one?"
"Thanks, I'll do it myself." (she's smarter than she looks.)
I'll be burning all Spring. Bring your marshmellows!
