Unhappy Used or Remanufactured Transmission?

It's been a while.... anyone have thoughts on buying used or remanufactured transmissions? There's a BIG price difference, but I don't want the transmission to fall apart on me.....

Depends on your financial situation. Remans at the parts house is a bunch of illegals reassembling a e40d or a 4r100. Youll never know. Local tranny shop comes with a warrantly and costs about 2600 max. Or you can order one and then a torque converter and go from there.

That's funny that you mentioned illegals. A guy at my husband's work said he could get a transmission from Mexico for about $700.

Is $1800 2yr unlimited mileage a good price? This company is Premier Transmissions out of Arizona. He has a shop here that will install for $300.

Well, a warranty is only as good as the company that issues it. IOW, BTS? No problem even if it is outside written warranty. Ford Dealership? Depends. Some will try screw you by blaming you for the damage. I had a trans that they claimed failed because I did the service but not at a GM facility and the filter wasn't installed right. Funny thing was when they pulled the pan, it was still there in the right place.

BTS would be the last one you bought.

BTS would be the last trans you bought. I wish I had the time to get one when mine went out- for the second time. Any top notch trans shop will have a dyno slip to accompany the tranny. A stock rebuilt will work just fine if built right, and used with a good converter. Find out if that shop will void their warranty if you upgrade to a PI, ATS, or Suncoast TC. Especially if they are installing it.
