5.4 motor issues in Lincoln Blackwood
I am having trouble isolating the problem with this motor, I was running down the interstate got on it a little bit and she stalled. I changed all the coil packs and placed new plugs. Which was long overdue; based on the code reading random misfire cylinders, the cats got hot so i replaced them on Saturday. Still nothing. Cleared codes and now truck starts better runs like its missing and the cats on the passenger side get hot quick , so I shut her down....but no codes came up...talked to Ford and they indicated a EGR problem would cause no computer codes...........looking for an answer .....can anyone help.....??

Bad Bank fire codes? One bad Cyl, or Cyl misfire?
Look at the top of your Air plenum where the EGR valve & Vacuum advance valve connects to the Intake manifold, Right at the top, Under the windshield wipers. Ther's a Right angle rubber connector boot that attaches directly to that vacuum system. There's your leak! Find a silicone rubber Spark plug boot & replace it with that. Trust me, it's weird, but it fits. Otherwise, get few varied diameters of Hoses & hose clamps & replace it with that. This error drove me nuts until it flat out failed. The Alcohol from your windshield washing fluid, deteriorates the rubber on this part, creating a slowly increasing vacuum leak. and Varous BS error codes. This miay also explain the extra oxygen in yopur exhaust, causing calalytic converter overheating. ( SDo that what that HOT smell was...). Any way sorry to let you know tyou spent wat y too much money on fixing it, My fix cost me $8.57 at the local NAPA parts store, & would have been free, if I'd have thought of the spark plug boot fix...
