Okay, so this is not V10 specific, but I don't look at the other forums too often, so here goes:
I noticed, maybe two months into my SD ownership, that the F350 badge on my left fenderwell was missing some black paint. I touched it up with a Sharpie. Yesterday I noticed that the F350 on the tailgate was doing the same thing, only this time the flaking was probably too much to just touch up. While flipping through some posts, I noticed that 4WD's silver V10's F350 badge was flaking.
I have no desire to turn my truck over to the dealer's bodyshop, but guess I should. Anyone else notice this?
Michael
P.S. Turned 10k on the odometer last week while pulling my fiver. Haven't had a reason to visit my dealer! Love this machine/motor.
I've seen a few posts on this and believe this is a known problem and is covered under warranty. The badges are held on by adhesive on so I don't think it would be a big deal for the dealer to remove/replace them.
I've noticed the flaking on the badge right off the bat, but it never got any worse, so I just have been letting it pass. Soon it will be out of warranty, so then it won't matter. Really, all chrome don't look too bad to me.
----Wasn't there a discussion about the black paint on the chrome badges flaking off a year or so ago on here?
Yeah...seems Ford's supplier for all the 05+ badges went el cheapo with the paint. Even my Excursion badge in the back is flaking although my 05 V10 badges are holding up well.
Thanks for the responses. As far as billetbadges.com, I got my brother a custom badge for his F-250 (4wd, long bed, cc with V-8 ) and it came out very nice. Pricey, but very well done.
I like the standard badge very well, and will probably just hit up the dealer.
My 01 did the same thing. I just took off the paint completly with some acetone. Just tape them off and went to town with some q-tips. Now I have solid chrome badges. Cheaper than new billet badges and look just as good.
The paint is peeling from all of my '06s, F250 badges. I've seen it on the F150s as well. Not sure if I'm going to hit Ford up for a replacement set of badges or not. Possible the paint on them will flake as well, dunno, we'll see.
