Just how hard is it to replace the oil pump in a efi 5.0? I was looking through my shop manual and it looks not too hard but I have to do some measuring or something for the main bearings???. also I need to replace my head gaskets has anyone done it without pulling the motor? and if so was it pretty hard?
Head gaskets are not that hard to do. In the truck really doesn't make it any harder. Just follow your shop manual. Why do you need to replace the head gaskets? Oil pump is another matter it is a pain to remove in the truck. You need to disconnect both motor mounts so you can lift motor up enough to get pan off. IMHO if you are going to do head gaskets and oil pump you should go ahead and pull the motor and do some other R&R to it not much harder and will be well worth the extra effort. Hope this helps and Good Luck,

Well i know the left side gasket is blown, i'm losing compression did a test and its pissing oil from the rear i can see it come out. And since one side is toast may as well do the other side. The pan doesnt look that hard. I took it to a shop to have the front seal done and it only took 30min for the guy to do it, but he didnt have to raise the motor or anything else just un did the bolts clean the pan and put a new gasket set on there. I dunno maybe its different i have a 88 bronco 5.0. thanks for your help.
To replace the front seal you do not have to remove the pan. To get to the oil pump you will have to remove the pan. The front seal is in the front cover it comes off from the top and front of the motor. This will not make it any easier to get to the oil pump. Look at the shop manaul and you will see it is like I said to get to the oil pump you will have to remove the pan and lift the motor to get the pan off. Check with some others or look closely at a good shop manual and you will see. I wish it was not so but, it is a pain. Good Luck,
Rick
