Not long ago I noticed my front left wheel bearing had some slop in it. Thought I would try and delay replacing it until warmer weather showed up. Well, last week I noticed a squeak in the front end. I thought it must be the bearing assembly. I had time to crawl under the truck tonight and have a look. It wasn't the wheel bearing squeaking but the front axle u-joint was shot. I'm wondering if the U-joint is a replaceable part or if in fact the entire axle assembly must be purchased. If the U-joint is replaceable does someone have a part number? I'd hate to have to replace the entire axle if it's just a simple u joint that's bad.
Thanks,
JEV
I cant imagine why you couldnt, i can try to stop by the dealer tomarro, it looks like a 1350ish size u joint. Im assuming you mean the one actually inside the axle, and not on the front driveshaft? Just so were on the same page. The nice thing about getting it from a dealer, is they are spicer, pre lubed, without zerks. Every driveshaft place ive stopped at, seems to LOVE spiced u joints, over any other brand. They have a distinct shape, and its what came on our fords stock.
Yah, it's the Ujoint right behind the Wheel bearing/Hub assembly. I plan on replacing the seals and hub assembly while I'm in there. Anybody have the part numbers of the seals that I will need. Also, are the seals different for a hub that has manual lockouts? If anybody has a list of part numbers that would be great.
Thanks again,
JEV
I bought the u-joint and inner seals at Napa The outer seals and o-ring came from ebay.
