I heard a strange sounding turbo today

I was getting some #2, and the F-250 in front of me started up, and it sounded normal for a bout two seconds, when I heard a high pitched whistling sound, and whe nhe got on it to pull away, it got real high pitched, almost like a Cat turbo. Any idea what this guy might've had?

Was it a 7.3 or 6oh. The 6oh turbos have that high pitched sound.

Yeah, if it's a 6.0 (especially an early one), it will whistle like a mad chief...personnaly, the if that whistle was possible on a 7.3, I'd be all over it.

I'm pretty sure it was a 7.3- this thing sounded like nothing I've ever heard before. Definately not stock!!

I'd say mine whistles considerably more than stock. Now is it the intake, the exhaust, the turbo . . . a combo? But I don't think a turbo afficionado would mistake it for a 6.0. That is definately a higher pitch. My electrician has one opened up and man you always know when he shows up on the job.

I did the wicked Wheel and Foil Delete and new intercooler boots, I went to barely hearing the Whistle to an awesome Jet engine sound from about 9 LBS boost up. Yeaaaaa. And a definante power improvement.

I might buy a 6.0 if I could get that sound. From what I've read, he's had good luck with that truck.

A stock 7.3L with the just muffler deleted and a 3" pipe welded in it's place sounds awsome. About 2-3 seconds after it starts, the turbo spools a bit and starts whining and after it shuts down it whines for about 4 seconds or so. I wish I had a sound bite.

After shutting my warm engine down, i can hear the turbine spooling down for about 20 seconds in the stacks, i can even hear the intake howl for a few seconds if i am at the front.

If you could GUARANTEE me a trouble-free modified 6.0 engine (same level of mods as mine), i would gladly take a 05+ truck over mine any day. But reliability is the issue. I would love to have my truck sound like that clip, plus the turbo whissellll
