Today I was on my way home from work, and while climbing a small hill, the truck bounced where it usually does, and the engine quit running. Cranking it caused a bit of gas smell, but no attempt to run.
Talking with a friend, later, he said that the cable to the computer might need to be reset, or the computer body might need to be tapped lightly, to get it to work.
no, dont tap the computer, dont want something breaking in there. To reset the computer, disconnect it from the battery for about a half an hour or more. Make sure you have spark.....you said that it smelled like gas so that kinda rules this thought out, but check the fuel inertia switch just in case.
Mine is not fixed yet. I tripped the inertia switch, cranked it over, and nothing. I reset the inertia switch, cranked it over and I could smell gas. From that, I would believe that the problem is not the inertia switch.
Monday, I will have it towed to my mechanic friends shop. I have been wanting him to rebuild the differential anyhow.
easy man, I was replying to the Original poster, start a thread letting us know what's up with your truck and we can find out how to help you....that way, we dont get a criss-cross of conversations and information that'll muddle up everything
I did not test for spark. If I was still a youngster (AT LEAST 20 OR SO YEARS YOUNGER), I would have had a spark plug to test it with. I know it needs a tuneup badly, from the looks of the distributor rotor and cap contacts, and with the other things needed, to be done, I decided not to check any further.
The mechanic will tell me what stopped the engine from running, and I will post whatever it was.
