97 F250 advise

Hello
I currently have a 96 F150 extended cab 302 auto 355 rear 2wheel drive in excellent shape 92000 miles.
I use it to tow my 67 Fairlane to shows twice a year sometimes 500 miles one way. The truck does ok but am considering a heavier truck.
I am going to go look at a 97 F250 extended cab auto 5.4 2 wheel drive 104000 miles. (not sure of the gear ratio) I am thinking of getting it because it will be better for towing the car and safer due to being a F250. It is the newer 97 body style not like my 96. He is asking 7000 for it but it is in great shape. Is there anything I need to look for that can be a problem with the 97 or is it a good all around truck. I am asking you guys if it is worth upgrading to or should I keep my truck for now and get a newer one in a couple years. My current truck I like alot and would hate to part with it but I gotta think safety for my family when towing the car. Is he about right for the price or is it a bit high? Any input appreciated.

I'd look at the gearing, my crewcab with 3.73 gears never was a gear tow vehicle. If it has 4.10 gears you'll be in good shape with stock sized tires.

I just got back fromm looking at it and it is in great shape but he is asking 8000 and it has 373 gears.. Any comments appreciated..

The trucks suggested retail value is 8650. The private party is 7130 and trade in is 5725 I kinda think 8000 is a bit high or am I wrong..
I think they only used this body style a couple years in the F250 I have not seen many of them?

The truck is a light-duty f-250 I don't think that the gvwr or towing capacitiy are much higher. I don't think that's it's a big improvement there's a reason that you don't see many of these on the road. Ford only made these for a couple of years I think to compete with the gm light 3/4 ton which looked the same as a 1/2 ton just had the 2500 badging. I would not buy it Imo. You should be able to find a 97 f-250 that looks like your 92' for about the same price that would be alot more capable and safer. I know that it would be nice for a style change I had 2 of the 92'-97' style and I almost bought a third one but I'm glad I found my 03' cause I was ready for a change. Happy hunting, Dale

As far as I know, F-250s with that body style were only producted in 1997 and 1998. I believe that their GVWR is 7700lbs, which would make it a light duty 250. In 1999 they continued to product this truck except that changed the name to "F-150 7700". These trucks can always be identified by their distinctive 7-lug wheels.

I don't have any information reguarding the longevity or usefulness of these trucks, but personally I like the 1996 body syle better.
