About a month ago, my wife and I bought a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer. It has they keypad entry on the door (similar to our 1998 Ford Explorer). On the owner's manual, written on a piece of tape is a 5 digit code that doesn't work on our door.
I've asked the selling dealer to get the number because my Mercury dealer wants to charge me $50 to plug it up and get the code. I've also heard that these are stamped / written on the computer box behind the glove box. I've pulled the glove box apart and can't find a corresponding 5 digit numeric code on any of the electronics. I know on my Explorer it was stamped on metal above the rear left wheel well inside the back compartment once you removed the cover.
Is there a way to find the factory code on this year / model without taking it in?
