as I accidently posted in the wrong forum, I recently bought a 99 F250 7.3l
and my service engine light stays on. ive used a code reader on it, and it comes up with a crank shaft positioning sensor, how hard is this to fix? expensive?
Trouble Code P1336: CKP and/or CMP Input Signal to PCM Concerns
There actually was a technical service bulletin issued on it:
TSB No.: 870197 NHTSA No.: 10000592 TSB Date: October 22, 2002
Failing Component:
Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine
Description of Summary:
Incorrectly installed gear driven camshaft position (cmp) sensor synchronizer assemblies causing surge, lost of power, malfunction indicator lamp on and diagnostic trouble codes p1336, p1309 and p0340.
There's nothing worse than "electrical gremlins and anomolies" on these trucks. Sometimes nothing a computer does makes any sense.
Her truck might not even have the original or even correct PCM.
I'd put a beer on it that its probably just the camshaft position sensor that triggered the service light.
I would reset it if I were her and see what happens. My wife's Pontiac Grand Prix triggers a few emmisons and fuel codes once every couple of years when it gets real cold at night and then warm the next day. I reset them and they stay gone for a while. Sometimes for two or three years. It never runs oddly or anything when it happens, so I figure its probably condensation somewhere in the jungle of electronics.
SuperDutyGirl, reset the code and monitor for a while and note the temps, driving style, etc. and see what happens. That is if it's running okay.
o man. i had the same problem with my ca truck. i still cant get the light to go away. the only thing i havent done is replace the glow plugs since it looks like a real hassle to get the passenger side valve cover off. all i can say is if u decide to replace the gpr get the right one(110 or motorcraft) and dont mix up the sensor (blue)wires that go to each bank from teh shunt to each bank of the engine. good luck
