More plasma cutter questions

Hey for those of you that have plasmas, how many amps are they? Ive been looking and looking to get one, but dont know where to look for them, and dont know how big to get one. I found one on ebay for 500 bucks and it looks not bad for the price, but I dont really know anything about them.

I've just used some for my job. They do a clean easy job on clean metal, but as for dirty iron acetelyn is still comparable. It would be really nice o get a small one for body parts and maybe 1/4 inch sheet metal.

I`ll check mine out for size and get back to you. It`s the smallest 220 volt model good for 3/16'' and can shear but not really cut cleanly 1/4''.

I've heard that a small plasma (ideal for bodwork) is not all that much money for a new one even when buying local. I should go 50/50 with dad one day never got around to it yet though.

Thanks morris i would appreciate it. Snow do you know where in stoon a guy could look for one? I wouldnt need anything huge, although the bigger the better! Ive also seen a few at some auction sales coming up, and I might try to get one for cheap there.

Used ones are hard to find and usually fairly expensive. And if there`s an expensive problem with it it`s your problem especially at an auction.
I lucked out as my nieghbour that repairs plasmas had almost a new one very reasonable.
I don`t think I would chance it at an auction cause you never know for sure till it`s too late.

Yeah I dont know, the auction im talking about is at a friend of the family, so he would be able to tell me if it works or not. Morris do you mind if I ask the price range you got yours in?

It was a gift at $650, less than half price for a major brand, hardly used and a good will guarantee!

Mine is a Thermal Dynamics Pak Master 25, 20 amp 220 volt model with a 70% duty cycle.
Any major North American manufactured plasma is a good bet, as always watch out for the off shore wanna be copies.

Yep, it has enough power, ability and is a great size for getting in smaller places for automotive rust repairs.
There is a smaller size with it`s own built in air compresser but that`s only good for light gauge sheet metal and won`t handle the 1/4'' steel like this one.
One of the most important things with all plasma cutters is there no moisture is present in the air supply becuase the consumables/tips will get damaged rapidly. A water/moisture filter in the air line is very crucial!
