Engine Work
How do you know you're getting an engine that truly has quality parts that will last as long as Ford OEM parts? I the case of a 3.0, we all know these engines last a loooooong time. Will that remanufactured engine do the same?
I've alwasy wondered about this. Thoughts?

When you find one with a good reputation, call their tech support guys and ask them specifically what brand parts(eg.TRW, Felpro) they use and what they do to the blocks and heads(Plane and square the blocks, line bore the main journals, . They also should be re-grinding and balancing every crank and using all new parts including cam & valves. Some go as far as using new connecting rods. If it's nearby, call the plant manager and ask him who you could talk to to arrange a tour. Tell him your doing a "peice" for FTE. He'll love it. It's a rare request and they should always be looking to increase their exposure, especially when its the biggest truck forum on the web.(most of their business is usually fleet trucks) Bring a camera. The place should be spottless with newer, fully automated machining and measuring equipment, with final assembly being done by hand, and by a guy that actually wears a shirt with a collar. Check out how they test them before shipping. It should be impressive.
A lot of guys will pull the pan when they get it home to check out a few clearences and torques without taking anything apart just to satisfy themselves (this may affect the warranty).
It'd be a lot of fun checkin all this stuff out I'm sure
. I think a lot of guys here'd be interested in what you find out deadhang. A worthy adventure indeed
