Post 33 on the stock tire carrier?

Anyone carrying a 12.50 x 33 on the stock spare tire carrier?

Tom

33 on the stock tire carrier?

I plan to, but my local tire retailer told me that It can be done with a stud extender, or wheel adapter from your local 4x4 shop. I have not had the time to go to my local shop and find it yet. A 12.5 in. wide tire won't fit on the stock spare tire carrier as far as I know. Good luck finding the adapter.

I have one on my 87 stock rear carrier. It is snug and I suggest that you turn it every so often so that you don't end up with a wear groove in the tire from the upper bar.

Did it for a while on mine. I just used some 2" x .120" wall square tube for spacers between the carrier and the frame, and used longer bolts. Worked great and was cheap, too

I have one on my 96.
It didn't require any modifications to fit.
I'm using 10" offset wheels though.
I used to have one on my 83 too, and that fit just fine also.

It all depends on the offset of the rim. If you have those rims that stick outside the fenders of the truck then it might not work. I had a 37" tire on mine with no modifications.

I don't know if the carriers are different on the later models, but I've been carrying around a 35x12.50 on a 10" wheel for the last eight years with no problems.

Just a thought. If the actual wheels that your larger-than-stock tires are mounted on have the same or shallower (smaller measurement) backspacing, it would seem the the larger tire would still mount to the factory spare carrier. To be absolutley certain though, you would have to take into consideration additional tire section width as well. I am about to go to 33x12.50's as well and its a very good question that I most likely wouldn't have thought of 'til I tried to stuff the larger tire onto the carrier.
