One peice door glass?

I'm doing a one peice door glass conversion on my 84 F350. Has any one done a swap like this and if so what glass did you use?? We have cut a template and have been looking at wrecking yards to find a donor with out much success so far. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Rob

I seriously doubt that you will find a suitable donor because the core frame used from 1980-1996 all had a vent window. The rear door glass from a crew cab might work but would require the regulator and channels.

No problem for us to massage the inside of the door/window frame so the glass just needs to be close. We have installed cable type electric mechanisim, so no probs there. Isn't the rear door glass rectangle though?

I was always going to check to see if the Ranger door glass was close. Maybe something along the lines of small pick ups, like S-10 or Dakota or the imports. Most of them came without the vents. Just a thought.

Yes, but the overall size (length and width) should be right. It would need to be trimmed by a glass shop to match your template. The smaller trucks (with single glass) have an overall smaller (shorter) door which would make the glass too short even if it were wide enough. Something like a Mustang, Thunderbird, Cougar, or even a Camaro would be too short.

I have a feeling you might wind up having the glass made to fit. Take the stock glass and the template to the glaziers and they can handle the rest.

Hi mhg, does the van use the same door as the F series? Do you have any photos?
Thanks for the help

Ok, I've looked at some photos and it looks like it might work. Only problem is we didn't get any of the E series here so it's a little difficult to measure one up. What it looks like they have done is stretch the window frame on the E series but the basic shape of the frame is the same. Would it be possible to take some measurements for me? Then I may be able to order some from the states, this will be a lot cheaper than getting some moulds made and getting custom glass.

Have been doing a little homework on this myself. The door shell from 1987-1996 is the same except for the outer skin at the bottom edge for the 1995/1996. The replacement glass for 1980-1996 pickup truck is the exact same. The only difference is the vent window from 1992-1996.

The single glass for the E-Series Van came in two style types. It depended on which side mirror was used. Manual adjust mirror requires a small notch left out of the glass at the lower front corner to allow for a mirror. Electric and swing away mirrors use a full single glass that "should" fit the shell from 1980-1996.

Hope this helps!

Thanks 82F150 I think we are getting closer to solving this problem :-)) The photos I have are of a 96 E350 with truck style mirrors and a plastic insert at the front. The glass looks like it may be 6" taller than an F series, but this will not be a problem as long as the top of the frame and the over all width is the same as I think the door is deep enough to house the extra depth, and if it isn't it's not a huge problem to have a little glass protruding from the weather seals as we have a new AC system that should keep temp good and I can leave my windows up.
If I could get an over all hight and width and the lenght of the very top of the glass I would have a better idea if it will work.
I really appreciate every bodies help on this, it really shows what a great community and resource we have in FTE
