I think I blew up one of my front shocks!!!
I was replacing the battery cables on my truck today and noticed that my shock was covered with a dirty substance that wasn't the same consistency as water and smelled like a chemical. I think I might have blown the front right shock. In may I installed a 4" suspension lift from rough country and replaced all 6 front and rear shocks as part of the lift. I bought Heckethorn 9000 gas shocks. I love the lift and the look and feel of the new suspension but something smells funny. I did some hard offroading on Sunday and noticed what I believe to be the gas from the shock this afternoon. I know that shock isn't detrimental to the trucks performance but I would like to replace it if it is leaking because I am known to ride my truck hard offroad and I need all the suspension I can get. Could the shock have blown and now be leaking the gas that is inside? If so, would this be considered a manufacturer's defect and be covered under the warranty? I have to find my receipts for the shocks and call JC Whitney (that's who I ordered them from) to find out what kind of warranty, if any, the shocks came with. I am really surprised because when I bought the shocks I went for the middle of the line pricewise and had heard good things about Heckethorn and many of their products. If you have had a similar experience or know why and how I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I had this happen to me also. My shocks were gauranteed. Took it back to 4wheel parts and got a free replacment. If yours are not to old I bet you can get them to replace your shock for free. My shock was a rear shock and it did blow a seal. Dirt was sticking to the side of the shock. I wiped it clean thinking it was somthing sticky that I had run over. Two days later there was more fluid on my shock with dirt sticking to it. I then new that I had blown a shock.
