info on truck

I have just purchased my grandfather's 1965 f250 custom cab - he custom ordered it in 65 with all the options (I think) and a focomo search light. It has a camper shell on it that has been on it for 30? years - I was wondering the differences between custom cabs and camper specials - Any info anyone can give me would be great - and helpful website info, or informative books - the truck is mint and looks brand new. I'm getting used to the manual choke - and don't want to change it. Thanks for any helpful info - jeralyn

Welcome to FTE

If you wish, post all the numbers off the VIN plate, found below latch on left door face. They can be decoded here. This info will include sales office where truck was sold new, the factory that built it, axle ratio, other interesting info.

Krause Publications book "Standard Catalog of Ford Light Duty Trucks 1905/2002" has a wealth of info on your truck. Included will be all the Custom Cab and Camper Special options and features.(ISBN: 0-87349-411-3) krause.com

The 1965 Camper Special was first available only as an F100. So, the OP's 1965 F250 is not a Camper Special. From 1966 thru 1972, CS's were either F100's or F250's. It wasn't till 1973, that CS's were either F250/350's, the F100 CS was dropped. Dual batteries were first offered in 1973, as was most of the other aforementioned Camper Special equipment.
