Just took a NEW 2008 F450 Superduty Home

Hi folks. This is my first post. I have been a lurker for quite awhile.

I just took delivery on a 2008 F450 Superduty Crew cab. It's a black and silver Lariat w/6.4 Power Stroke.

Here are my first impressions:

1. The 6.4L Power stroke is much smoother and makes about half the noise of my old 6.0L in my old 2005 Excurision.
2. Has almost twice the pickup as the old Power Stroke.
3. No initial turbo lag on takeoff.
4. Seems to accelerate much faster than my Excursion.
5. Getting about 12 miles to the gallon in town but I'm sure that will improve as the engine breaks in.
6. Interior is great. Inside size on cab sems to be about the same as the Excurision.
7. Seats and dash look, feel and operate very nicely.

Overall I think Ford did a great job on the truck.

I can't wait to see how it tows the boat.

I'll try to post some pictures latter this weekend.

The the guys at Team Ford in Marritta, GA think mine is one of the first sold in GA.

That's AWESOME, Ed! I ordered one but I'm hoping Ford has enough of the engines on had to keep building them, while they fight it out with International.

I have seen in a number of places the 450 has a tighter turning radius than the other trucks, but can't find anyone who has the numbers vs say an equally equiped 350. Anyone know the turning radius on these two trucks? Please let me know. thank you. Bruce

I can't remember where I saw it but the 450 out turned the Dodge (3rd place) and the Chevy (2nd place) by more than 1 lane width.

Congrats! There is nothing like getting a new vehicle, especially a new Superduty.

I wish I could get one every year, but then all the hours spent customizing it would be wasted. LOL!

I saw that ad on the computer, but can't find an actual number. I guess it really don't matter. Do you have an avis stalwart (stolly)? I have been looking for one for saveral years. I found a guy in england that was going to sell me one but jacked the cost of the stolly and shipping almost double after we had a deal.

I have 5 Alvis Stalwarts, 2 with the crane and 3 without, we have 13 military vehicles in total. I ordered an '08 F450 to haul our military toys around on a gooseneck trailer but the Stalwarts will only be going on short rides because of their weight.

I am not so familier I guess with different stalwarts. The one I was looking fo is an amphibious troop/equipment hauler. Like the US duck but much nicer looking 6x6. If you know where i can get one please let me know. I need one ready to go. I am a bit mechanical but have no knoledge on these swimmers. I'm good with my commercial mowers, tractors and fast bikes.
I plan to get a 450 but I bought a 6 liter when they first came out and still have it, but went through all the pains of a new upgrade. I think I may wait about 6-8 months to get the bugs out. I hope there are none. Good luck with yours.

There are only 3 types, all swim and 2 of the types have a crane behind the cab for self loading of cargo. They are a maintenance NIGHTMARE and they are the slowest truck you can imagine. They will BARELY make 40 mph and if it's cold outside, and all 14 gearboxes are filled with cold thick 90 weight, you may need to drive about 10 miles before you get much above 30 mph. For all this fun you get 2.5-3 mpg and the sound of a straight 8 Rolls Royce screaming 10' behind you. I like 'em, but I'm crazy. Many of the pictures on the web with a swimming Stalwart are my first truck.
