I have a leaking rear main on my '89 460 and figured it was time to replace that seal but I'm having a hard time getting the tranny off the engine. I've taken the shifter off, removed the slave cylinder, removed the starter, and taken the crossmember off and removed the bellhousing bolts.
Everything I've read says you should just slide the tranny back and it should slip right off. Is there something I've missed? Are there bellhousing bolts I didn't see? I pulled six out, 3 on each side. Should it be that hard to get the tranny off?
SOmetimes you need to wiggle it pretty good. The transmission is made of aluminum and it is located onto the engine by 2 steel pins. Sometime those pins corrode and prevent the trans from sliding back. Take a punch and drive the pins loose if wiggling it doesn't work.
