It was the rivalry between the manufacturers that drew most people into watching. I personally do believe that we will start to see a leveling off and declining of NASCAR Nextel Cup. I have no problem with competing against foreign manufacturers just make it an even playing field and let our boys run their newest designs(modulars, northstars, etc) against their designs of comperable displacements and complexity(have rules for no. of valves, variable timing, etc.) What NASCAR is doing now is unfair in that the new comers can research everything Ford, Chebby, and Dodge has done and make an engine with all these advantages already built into the design. Do you know what I am trying to say here SMIGGS? I know Rousch and Yates are not whining around, even if they did no one listens. That is not the point.. If Nascar wantsa to let everyone in give them allthe same starting line. Nuff said.
I couldn't agree more! The folks/fans who helped build this sport(?) to what it is now are being shown the door with toy and the irocot car coming to be.

On the other hand I really believe that na$car should be spelled gmna$car as they've always given gm just about anything they've wanted throughout it's history, but now they have toy's big $$ to entice super brian france. I fully expect toy to takeover cup just like they have the Craftsman truck series.

BTW Hands down childress and hendrick are the loudest whiners.

The RCR head that was impounded was an illegal head set-up, why shouldn't everyone be allowed to see it?

As far as rules go, I'm sure the 358" mill that's been in the truck series is being used..........all chassis and suspension is status quo.

As much as everybody whines and complains about NASCAR this and NASCAR that and there's nothing stock and the bottom line is the popularity is growing, they get network coverage and the originization appears to be fairly solvent.............wish we could say the same for Ford.
First off, who's fault is it that camry's are the only car assembled in the US? Ford's? You can thank our beloved govt for that dipstick move.

Nope that 's not the same engine as what is being run in the trucks! Wrongo!

As for toy widening the fan base, maybe so, but will this offset the loss of fans is the real question/answer. Time will tell, but from the looks of the tv rating losses and the looks of the stands vs empty seats from the past year or two I'd say they'd best hope it offsets it. Meanwhile it's not looking good!

You got it! It's not about the racing competition so much anymore, it's more about entertainment and drama. I used to really enjoy watching it, but not anymore. It's become as phony as a $3 bill and nothing but an over-blown shivy commercial.

Yes, the US Government is partially to blame, but no one figured that the Japanese factories would last. So the blame also lies with the UAW, Ford, GM, Chrysler & AMC for not petitioning the Gov't to insist on foreign auto companies having UAW presence in their factories in the US. No one did, and all the factories are non union but one.

NASCAR in Southern CA. When the Riverside Raceway and the Ontario Motor Speedway were open, every race sold out. Both tracks are long gone...replaced by housing (what else!). Riverside went in 1988. There were no races till several years ago when Roger Penske opened the California Motor Speedway in Fontana. Dispite promotions, none of the races have sold out.

Somehow, I can't think of Toyota Camry owners supporting NASCAR. Most Toyota street race fans prefer the tuner (ricer) variety...y'all know the type...the ones with the phart can exhaust. Can you see these ppl attending NASCAR Races? I can't.

NASCAR wants Toyota in Nextel Cup Racing for one very good reason = MONEY. They want Toyota support and Toyota promoting NASCAR Nextel Cup Racing. If a few Toyota fans show up, all the better.

I agree, if it's illegal why shouldn't everyone be able to see it.

And where is all this money getting them? How have Toyota faired the first 4 races? IMO you can throw all the money at a race team but if they don't have the proper organization and engineering it doesn't mean squat.

BS!! This country is a capitalistic society....you want Govt. control over everything than move.

I actually learned here at FTE that after many years of Mexican built Foci, they brought production back to the states.....the fact that Fusions are still built in Mexico is more a product of Ford's greed than anything to do with the Gubment.

Willing to learn..........I understand there are probably quite a few spec differences as there are between Bush/Truck/Cup cars but I would be greatly surprised if the major components were different.....Block/heads etc...

Well, can't argue what you choose to see (or not see) but if Vegas is any indication, NASCAR is alive and well.

Please provide links to the TV ratings......

Oh, and why isn't anybody crying about Dodge's involvement in NASCAR???
Not only do the "profits" not stay here, but they don't even assemble the civilian Charger in the states.

Would seem that Toy contributes more to our economy than the German company.

Please do not confuse him with actual facts please.......

He might be very surprised on what he finds.

How many tracks are crying for a second date in the season?
