Im changen the rear gearing from 3:73 to 3:08 with a new posi....has anyone done something similar.....any surprises?
Going from Low gear to Higher gears you will lose a lot of power but your gas mileage will jump way up. I take it you have a 351 or larger engine to turn the higher gears and no trailers to pull. You will be able to go faster also if you have the engine power.
Is this a 4x4? If so you have to change the front diff gearing as well. I'm guessing you have a 3spd auto or 4sp manual, because people usually move the opposite direction with gearing.
its a 2wd and it has a 351 with a few mods(exhaust, cold air intake, hotter coil, engine timing. c6 tranny (3spd) engine tachs at 3000rpm at 110kms(6omph) chug a lug .....
changed gearing from 3:73 to 3:08 with posi....what a difference!!! the 351 has gobbs of power and the mileage has jumped up. the speedo is out, so I WILL have to change the speedo calibration.....any helpful hints would be appreciated....
What kind of mileage difference are you seeing? Got any exact numbers? I don't pull much with my truck and I'd like to get a little better mileage. Give us more details.

Are you sure there is a change in your speedometer? These trucks use a sensor that reads the rotational speed of the ring gear. Since your ring gear turns the same number of times per distance travelled (unless you also change to different diameter tires) regardless of your axle ratio, your speedometer should still read as accurately as it did prior to the axle change.
Be careful about reprogramming your speedo unit: There are a limited number of changes that it will accept before you have to discard it & start with a new one.
i havent put many miles on yet....\\\i usually use just over 1/4 tank to go approx 100kms and now the fuel gauge just started to move and im already at 110 kms...the huge drop in rpms to go highway speed makes the big difference..
