I've got an 06' F-150 with zero problems. My wife wanted a 1500 Silverado, I tried to talk her into an F-150, but we made it to the Chevy stealership before Ford and she found an 06' 1500 Silverado w/ 5600 miles, LT with tow package, nice truck. Test drove it everything seems fine got it for $19,995. Figured good deal low miles, wifes happy all is good. Now I was born a Ford man and always will be, and figured what are the odds of getting a problem child from GM. Well I guess the odds are pretty good. The truck currently has 14,000 miles and has already had the intermediate shaft in the steering column relpaced under warranty as well as the screaming power steering pump. It's been just over 1 week from the repairs and the power steering pump is already screaming again and the steering wheel squeeks when turn left. Moral of the story. DON'T BUY A CHEVY!!!! I can't WAIT for the tranny problems! So much to look forward to.

Look at it this way your friend offered you an out. If he offered you a F250 at a "deal" and you still want a bowtie you'll get a better trade for the 3/4 ton truck anyday. F250 hold their value really good.

The frequent rear end repairs are caused, by the flat rate system, not by Ford. Ford may be at fault for the 1st occurance, but one "fixed", it's on the dealer. I wouldn't trust many flat rate techs to rebuild a rear correctly, because it is time consuming, and flat rate doesn't account for that. It should be fixed at no charge to you, but also it's not Ford's issue either, it's the dealer. If the owner is a true "friend" he will just bite the bullet and pay to have a (new) complete rear axle put in. That way his "butchers" can't screw it up again. Repeated failures are 9 times out of 10 setup issues.

I really love my truck (which is almost paid off) and have added too many things to it over the last couple of years. I know if I trade it in, or have it bought back, I can remove most of the add ons, but I JUST WANT MY TRUCK FIXED!
YOU HEAR THAT FORD!
Whew...I fell a little better now.

2007 F250 Power Stroke 4x4 ShortBox Crew for $36,300 out the door. I hadn't researched too much (been pricing 2500 HD's more), but that seemed like a pretty good deal. Especially since the diesels will be increasing by a few thousand for new emmissions requirements from what I've heard.

55wagon, I have an 06 F350 dually Super Duty for a work truck, and an 06 1500 Silverado for home use. The Ford works great, and so does the Chevy. I say buy Ford and Chevy, and keep the longest running truck lines in business. You say don't buy Chevy, because you got a bad USED truck. Well Ford and Chevy can have problems with some of their vehicles.

The reason they have not fixed your whine is because the tech they have does not know how to setup a rear end correctly. I would love to be a fly on the wall. Bet he is just throwing parts at it and not adjusting the preload or shiming it correctly. Too many of us who had this whine have had it fixed correctly. This dealer is full of you know what! Ask him why there is a TSB in regards to this situation if it were so called "normal". Wonder if the tech knows how to read the book to set up a diff correctly. Maybe he doesn't know his numbers!
