Born in Gunnison, grew up mostly in Grand Junction and Broomfield.
I think Grand Junction is the reason I will refuse to own a car for the rest of my life.

Born @ St Anthony's

Grew up between the 2 lakes (rocky mtn and Berkley) on I-70 between federal and sheridian.

I am not quite as old as some of our more "senior" members, back then the neioghborhood was changeing with the forced bussing etc. SO my family moved to littleton. THe whole world ended at countly line road and at night you could still see the stars.

I remember when Colorado topped 1 million in population, then a few years later t was just in the Denver metro area. Now the metro is over 4 mil I think. Seems like most of them are on the hwy with me everytime I go anywhere. All the growth is one of those catch 22's for me, I am in construction.

Great thread.

My mother was pregnant with me in Col. Springs, but the folks were broke (I've heard the story how they shared their last baked potato (actually roasted over a fire) while camping out in the Garden of the Gods). They moved to Indiana where my grandfolks were living and so I missed out on being born in CO. Kind of sad.

I know that area well. My mother grew up at 45th & Decatur, went to North High (grad in 42)Grandmother lived there until 97 or so. That area has really changed over the years.

And yes, the entire area has changed much. Having moved from Denver to Pueblo a little over 4 years ago, I do not miss that Rat Race in the least. Pueblo is a nice, laid back town, contrary to popular belief.

Some old car/truck related Denver hang-outs:
1.East of Buckley on 6th Ave for drag racing, dad sold cars for Bill Croutch at the time and the best I ever did out there was in a new 72 Fury unmarked cop car (told dad I was going the the library, yea, that's the ticket)
2.Crusing the "loop" downdown, now it's a walking mall, too bad, met a lot of nice girls down there
3.Scottie's on Federal Blvd
4.Demolition derbie's at Lakeside
Man, those were the good ol days!

You "oldies" remember the Barrel Restaurant at Speer and Federal? This was the home for the original cheeseburger! Yup, the owner is credited with inventing the cheeseburger. Held a patent on it. The location is now a bank, but has a plaque commemorating the CB.

Moved to Grand Junction when I was 18 months(me and my twin sister) old. Got married in Uravan, Colorado which is no more. Then I got booted out of Colorado after the oil shale boom fizzled. I have been gone for about 25 years, but I return to Grand Junction occasionally. It's not the same place I grew up in.
