I have a '92 EB with auto and it says in my Haynes manual that it takes 80W gear oil for '92 and earlier and Mercon for '93 and newer autos. What do you guys use in your '92s?
Hmm, think the haynes manual has you all confused. If its an automatic, it takes Mercon transmission fluid. Better yet is DexronIII/Mercon ATF. It meets higher standards then the fluids meant for just one or the other. The 5 speed manual transmissions have used mercon in them for some time, as it flows easier at cooler temperatures, and takes less power from the engine. In extreme uses, and high temperature situations, some kinds of gear oil can be used. At current winter temperatures though, its not needed. Most Fords will say on the dipstick of the transmission which fluid it takes.
