ebpv question...
i had posted a previous thread about my 01 excursion hissing or making a rushing air sound under the hood and then going away with more throttle. everyone told me that it was probably the ebpv. then i read about how you can disconnect the two wire connection to the ebpv and that would solve the problem, well i just did that and started the truck in 14degree temps, let it warm for a minute and then took it out. no hissing, at any rpm. problem solved. now i only have one other question. the plug that i pulled out, is it ok for it to just hang where it is and is there any negative to doing this besides the fact that it will take longer for the truck to warm up now. thank you guys for all your help on this one, just another example of how great this website is.

I unplugged mine over a year ago and have not had any bad side effects. Temps here were down below 0* for a couple of weeks and when the high idle kicks in, warm up times weren't much different with or without the ebpv. As long as the plug is not rubbing on anything it is ok to leave as is.

Hey Alan. The hissing rushing sound is from the EBPV and is normal when temps get that cold. If when the truck reaches operating temp it doesnt stop then there would be a problem, if it goes away then there is no problem.

hey twisted, thanks but it had been hissing even after the truck had been warm. it had seemed to be all the time. even after driving it for a long time, it was still dragging. but thanks for the input.

If the EBPV is not deactivating once the truck is warmed up you may want to check the EOT. If it is not deactivating when you give it throtle you need to check the EBPS and tube. Even though you disconnected it and it is not hissing anymore the reason is still there.

amiller93, it was deactivating when i gave it throttle. it was only hissing or making that whush sound when i first stepped on the throttle, but if i got on the throttle more it would go away, so i guess the ebpv was opening. what is EOT? do you mean oil temperature?

The PCM is allowed to command the EBPV up to an oil temp of 167*F. When the temp gauge on the dash gets to the normal position the temp is not quit there yet. If the EOT is bad (Giving low reading) the PCM can command the EBPV the whole time you are driving because it thinks the oil is still cold. To check you need to be able to read engine PID's and compare it to the IAT sensor. They should be within 1*F of each other on a cold engine.

amiller93, that makes sense now that i think about it. the last few times i drove it before tonight, it felt like the truck was holding back or pushing against something, and now i see what you mean, the pcm could have been telling it at all times to keep the ebpv closed. i think i understand a little better now and thanks. what i put above about reading the pids and iat sensor... how do i do that?
