Exclamation Who wants to see Ford lose the green guages??

I am a die hard Ford guy but one thing I am praying they change with their new trucks/vehicles is the green guages!! I think they need to follow Mercury's lead and go with the blue lighting. Or, better yet go with electroluminescent guage faces! I really believe people would go nuts for a guage cluster like that..

not only that, but i would love to see ford put numbers on the guages...like how chevy and dodge have the temperature numbers and the numbers for the volt and oil pressure.....id also like to see them go to mechanical guages like chevy and dodge, instead of the electric guages...the oil pressure guage is nothing but an idiot guage pretty much

Why would they need to change any of the gauges to put numbers on? 90% of the people who drive vehicle have no idea what any of the guages actually mean and even if they do if one seems wrong the bring it in a shop. People who do know what they mean and actually pay attention to them but aftermarkets anyway because they don't trust the factorys period. I love the green guages in all my fords. I used my aunts audi for a couple weeks while we tried to sell it and that had red guages. It was all right but I found it a bit harder to read. Once I had to drive a customers mercury monteago and those blue lights hurt my eyes so much I had to turn them down and then could barley see how fast I was going (not cool with dealer plates either)

I'll keep the green ones. Human eyes are most sensitive to green light so the green guages are easier to see.

i like the orange needs and the background like in the Audis and BMWs. They look classy!! Or white gauges like the Dodge trucks and the new Mercury Milans (my gf just got one btw, and its sweet-off topic)

Talking

Don't trust the factory gauges, what makes them any different than aftermarket? That's pretty funny!

A good set of aftermarket gauges will provide more accurate information then the factory gauges. Especially if they are mechanical gauges. But then you have to worry about leaks.

The accuracy is not that far off to say the factory guages you can't trust. BTW not all aftermarket gauges are mechanical. Without knowing the specs on either for comparison the argument is a mute point.

I think they should offer the multi-color gauges that they offer in the mustang.

While your eyes are more sensitive to yellow/green light, it depends on your train of thought as to whether that means they are better for gauges. Many will argue that red light is actually best because, while it may be harder to see for the same brightness, it is more apt to preserving your night vision for seeing the road. This is the reason you see red lights being used for map lights in rally cars and BMW and other hi-po cars using them for dash lighting (among others).

I'm not going to argue that one is drastically better than the other, just throwing that out there. I keep mine just bright enough to be easily readable, no more.

Unless Ford has made a drastic improvement in there gauges recently, yes, a good aftermarket gauge can be far more accurate. I have seen this first hand. Faster reaction times (I admit, not always good), more accurate and you get a better idea of an actual number. Many OE oil pressure gauges aren't much more than on/off switches and react so slowly so as to be near useless for certain functions. I have also seen brand new cars side by side with (relatively) drastic discrepancies between readings, when everything should be equal. Trust? I guess it depends on how accurate you need/want them to be.

i didnt like how they looked at first but now i got so used to them i dont even care.

the best would the orange/amber from bmws, they are easy to see and tdister is right about how it doesnt make your eyes adjust too much when looking from the dash to the streets, kinda like the accent lighting for theater aisels. they are there if you need it but when you don't it doesn't really bother you.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think the current green is bad, I just think a different shade would be a refreshing upgrade to the "newer" Fords. I personally don't care for the red that much either but I do like the blue hues of say, Volkswagon or the new Mercury's.
