i have air bags on the rear of my truck and on the bottom of the ait bag there is a block the sits on the bracket on top of the leaf springs. is this block supposed to be welded to the bracket or is it supposed to be able to slide? i just noticed it this morning after slamming on my brakes last night because of some idiot cutting me off. sorry if this doesn't make sense i just got off work and my brain is fried.
Usually the airbag is bolted to the bracket and there is no sliding around. I don't know what kind of bracketry you have but I know that airbags are not required to have welding done to them. Did some of your bolts break or never installed...no disrespect to you at all. Are there any prior factroy welds you notice that are broken? Most of these installations I've seen are bolt on and go. I don't have them on my truck because I don't pull anything as of right now but I do have air shocks on the rear and those are very healpful. Take a closer look and let me know what you see.
it is the cup that the bottom of the airbag sits in. it is round and i believe it is made out of plastic. it has a square block attached to it that sits on the bracket on the leaf springs. it doesn't have bolt holes or any signs of welds.
I don't think your talking about a spacer, because you did say no sign of broken welds. Sounds like the plastic piece that runs through the middle of the airbag broke. This piece attaches to the bag itself on the top and the bottom. Sounds like the botom piece broke. Every airbag that I have seen the edges are not plastic that attatch to the bracket they are metal. Your best bet is to take it in to have it looked at, you might want to call the place where your bags came from. I don't have much else to tell you though. I hope that I was some help at least.
I thought there might be some type of bolt somewhere in there to hold that sucker down to the bracket. Hope I was some help for you. I was going to send you a picture of what I was talking about but I am not sure yet on how to put it where I type. So where you able to fix it?
now that i know where the bolts are i can fix it when i get the time. thank you for the info. i am glad that someone actually knows something about air bags. and it is really easy to pst images on this site. when you are posting a reply there is a picture of what looks like mountains and a sun right next a #. just click the picture of the mountain and a box will show up. just paste the link of the picture in the provided space.
Thanks for the info on the pics bro. I finally figured it out and it is a lot easier with photobucket. Thanks for helping out. Take care of those bags man, I wouldn't want to see that truck in ruins. Toooo nice for that. Mines not even that nice!
