larger injectors

Has anyone tried a larger injector in an '01 stock. Is it worth it or just a waste of money?

I have a couple of injectors that are giving my some issues. Thinking about going a little bigger. No mods yet otherwise. Just a beeffed tranny. Will be doing an airfilter and 4" exhaust. At some point maybe a chip.

Depending on how much larger of injector you are thinking, you'd probably need to get some type of chip custom tuned to the injectors. I know Beans makes what they call tranny savers, which are supposed to put up another 60 or 70 horse. I am not sure if you had to have a custom tune for those or not.

You can go bigger, but you will need to stay with "split" shot injectors to run without a chip. Gauges are a must!!!

You can not go much bigger then stock with Splits or you will run out of HPO (High Pressure Oil), Single shots you can go much bigger but they will require a chip to run.

What kind of issues are you having?

Thanks for the info. I kinda thought that it may not be really worth it to get larger injectors for the truck. As I am not looing to be 'heavily' modified.

The issues that I am having is that the #8 injector keeps failing the 'contribution test' from the Modis Scanner. I had made certain by testing several times that it would be worth pulling the injector. When I did I found that the o-rings were starting to get dry just a little and that one of them had a mark where it looked as though it may have been passing fluid by. ( I can not remember which one that was right now) The injector itself had some carbon build up on the tip and a light general tarich on the outside of it.
I wiped the injector clean with brake cleaner and a rag. I did not soak it it or spray into the injector. Installed new o-rings and reinstalled into the motor.

The first test came back fine. I have since tested over the last few days and it is being intermittent. But more often as not contributing.

The only other thing that is going on with the truck is that I do seem to have a slow oil leak coming from up near the HPOP. Iam finding a small puddle of oil in the valley. Have not had time to remove the pump and inspect. But I can confirm that it is not the plug on the lower right.

I would think that if the injector problem was oil related, such as getting air in somehow that it would not keep showing on only the #8 injector. I would have the same thought if this was a fuel delivery issue also.

The truck has 102,000 miles on it I bought it used with 75,000. I replaced the HPOP it had a leak on the 'unservicable o-ring' about 10,000 ago. Did not check with a computer at that time. The truck runs fine, no noticable miss. good power.

I run usually Exxon fuel in the truck along with some additive about every other tank.

My mechanic bud had mentioned that maybe we would want to bump up on the injector size. I think he was thinking that way because another friend has a 96 and had gone up in size. But I think that truck came with small injectors in the first place.

I think I will just replace the one injector and change the o-rings on the rest. Unless anyone has any great ideas.

The #8 is a long lead injector, they were Fords attemt at a fix for the dead headed fuel system they installed in the super-duty trucks. Swap it out for a regular AD injector and you should be good. While your at it get the regulated return system from ITP. Its not oil the injector is running out of but fuel.

Is it possible to change only the #8 injector to an AD?

All your injectors are AD on a 2000 and up. The #8 is a LL-AD. Yes you can

The Long Lead injector sends a somewhat longer first shot of fuel. The idea of this is to allow more time for the rail to fill from the #7 firing first. It was a band-aid fix for a poor fuel system...
