Question Diesel fuel from outer space (i.e. Mars)??

On my road trip this past weekend through Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, and back, I fueled up in a Loves truck stop in Louisiana. Funny thing was that when I got to the point of topping off the tank, the diesel foam was GREEN. I've never seen that anywhere else.

Has anyone else seen this "green" diesel before?

I really don't think so, unless it was dissolved organic color from their tank. Being a truck stop with high volume, I would hope that their system is flushed often enough from use to prevent/minimize that potential. About the same time I saw the green foam rising in my tank fill neck, the guy on the other side of the pump overflowed his tank with the same diesel and it was certainly a green liquid... no suspended solids... just green color.

I didn't see it with my next fill-up either, so I know it wasn't from my tank or anything in my system. Like I said, this is the only time I've ever seen that before. I almost went to check my calendar to see if it was St. Patrick's Day.

it's the dye they use, most of what I get around here has a slight green tint to even the foam

I guess the use of the dye is just a function of the manufacturer's or distributer's discretion? I would have thought that something like that to be a more universally applied or dictated situation for all ULSD fuel suppliers, but I guess not.

just did some checking and the only EPA, and IRS requirements or rules on what color and how much is for offroad, and high sulfar diesel the rest is just for the ease of the storage places to easily identify it.

Interesting. Of my 6 or 7 fillups with ULSD, that one in Louisiana is the only green one I've seen, and these fillups have been in Beaumont, TX, Birmingham, AL, Montgomery, AL, Gross Tete, LA, Baton Rouge, LA, and Mobile, AL. The green one was, like I mentioned originally, at a Love's truck stop, and that's the only Love's I've been to.

Fuel is green here in Virginia. The Shell I get fuel from still has the sticker stating the fuel is low sulfur and not the ultra low sulfur. I have a clear bowl on my racor filter and it's clearly green.

Nuff said for my own personal satisfaction. Knowing that it seems to be a norm in some places, I won't worry about it any more... especially since I've already run it all out and filled up twice since then.

The low-sulfur that I have used in my dump truck the last few years in Western Washington has a green tint and I also fuel at com. pumps only.

What I've normally seen for both the LSD and ULSD has been the same slightly golden color at every station I've been to. In fact, it's only been since Christmas that I've even begun to see the ULSD gaining ground around the Birmingham area, and, like I mentioend, no difference in color at all.

Since I haven't done the in-tank mods yet, I spend a good bit of time topping off the tank at every fill-up, so I get a really good look at the fuel and its associated foam, and it was that one fill-up in LA that sort of threw me off a bit because of the dramatic difference that I'd never seen before.
