All factory ford police packages will have P71 in the vin. They remove the speed limiter, different PCM code, heavy duty tranny, heavy duty cooling system and little else
cheers
the vics get heavier springs/stabilzer bars too for the extra weight they carry (taxis get them too, i know cause we bought an ex-taxi and we looked into it cause the thing was a little worn out and we wanted to repace the sag and we found out they have heavier springs and sway bars.
It turns out that PI's do NOT neccesarily have the speed limiters removed, just changed. Local PD just bought a new Vic has police interceptor badge on the trunk and is by the vin an actual police interceptor and according to one of the locals I know who ummmmm tested it, the car is limited at 105mph. I would guess it would be up to the dept as to whether it's eliminated or not, and since this is a city cop car apparently it wasn't.
Oh and they will always have the biggest alt charging package available too, not sure on the crown vic but I used to see some with dual alternators on them years ago.
I think the 105 MPH limiter may be specific to certain jurisdictions. I know in many places around here, the cops are required to discontinue pursuit if they break 100 mph.
Since it's all dug up though...the local PD back home has started trading in the older Tahoes for brand new Tahoes...and I'm not gonna lie, white and black with the black grille guard looks absolutely badass on the new Tahoes.
I talked to one of the cops in town one day, he said they were limited to 120 and were 6.0L/auto equipped, heavy duty charging and cooling package not available to the public, and the computer was reprogrammed by Chevy, but otherwise it was bone stock.
Reminds me of what my friend's did to one of their cars. They put a Turbo badge in front of Alero on the trunk. My friend says it looks authentic, but it is off-center.
But yeah, that was some smartass probably doing that for the hell of it, like what ricers do. Putting a R-Type badge on their little Hondas and such.
some people do think stickers make their cars faster though.. Maybe this guy want to be noticed? I have seen a mustang that was apparently a gt500 saleen turbo with svt badges by the front fenders.. People can be quite ignorant sometimes.
I remove the dang stickers. Took the F-O-R-D off my 1994 F-150 tailgate. I just didn't like the lettering. Looks much better clean than with those stickers. Heck, everyone knows an F-150 Ford truck when they see one. It doesn't need a lable!

we remodeled a houst on brownfield tx and the dps officer had a f150 that he used with the standart tx hypo markings. i asked him about it and he said it was governed to 100mph. they dont consider the trucks to be pursuit vehicles other than computer calibrations it was bone stock and the same as a regular f150. it was a 97-03 body style. about 4 months later we were there working and he had gotten a new 08 tahoe and he said it was 1) alot fater, 2) had alot higher speed limiter since it was considered a pursuit vehicles
Hot Springs County, Wyo, sheriff's office has an F-150, a new Raptor, two Wrangler Rubicons, and an Explorer. None of them have special badging.
The Crown Vics with the Police Interceptor badge are actually called the Ford Police Interceptor, as their model name. Hence the Taurus derived PI will retain the same nomenclature.
