HOT tranny
My transmission is running hot (250 deg.), it shifts just fine. I checked the fluid & found it was over full; never showed over full before. I drained out 3 quarts to get it down to the full mark, now it doesn't want to move. Acts like it's low on fluid even though it shows full on the stick.Tomarrow I'll replace the 3 quarts& I assume it will shift okay again but I'm at a loss as to why it shows over full all of a sudden &why it's running hot. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Did you check the fluid level with the vehicle running, and transmission fluid warm? If not you need to. Sounds like you removed too much fluid.
If it's running hot, and not being worked, smell the fluid. If it smells burned, get it flushed. And maybe add a tranny cooler if it dosen't have one.

How long has it been running this hot? You may need to check the flow through the coolers and see if you have enough flow. Could also be the bypass hung open and not letting it circulate through the coolers at all. You need to figure it out fast and get it fixed before you burn her up.

Appreciate the replies. It just started this recently. After the factory gage showed hot I checked it with a digital gage & it also showed hot. Fluid was flushed about a year ago & doesn't smell or look burnt.I'm no mechanic but if it was the clutches slipping wouldn't it be slipping when it shifts ? It seems to shift just fine ( up untill I drained some of the fluid to bring it down to the full mark.
