This spring I need to get the tranny looked at on my 66 F100. It has a tendency to slip out of or in between gears. The tranny is a C4 hooked to a 300 I6. Neither are original - best guess is that they're from an early 70's truck.
Anyway, there's a possibility that it's not the tranny itself, but it may just be the linkage. If I can't get it tightened up, I was considering putting in a floor shifter - has anyone done this, and how hard is it to do and could it help?
It's easy, just a little time consuming. It was for me because I've got a C6, shifted by a 69 Mustang floor shifter. I had to space the shifter up to get the linkage off of the trans and metal-in the air space. It works good, though and has been in there for 20 years.
This article will give an idea of how hard it is to install a shifter. It's for a B&M Truck Megashifter but it explains a majority of the whole process.
