Went to the Doc

I've been having lower back pain for several months now. I went to a specialist & found out its caused by arthritis on my vertebrae. He has me taking physical therapy 3 times a wk. I hope it helps. My first PT appointment Firday made me real sore. You know what they say, No pain no gain.

That stinks!.... I hope the PT does the trick.

On a personal note.....I still have "damage" to my back from a wreck back in '99. I was on the Traction-machine at first and had /still have extensive manipulation too. Your post makes me wonder if I need to see a specialist (again)-maybe my "slight" rhumatoid arth. is goin' nutz?

Good luck with that. I used to laugh at the elusive, non-descriptive "back pain" sufferers, but I've learned that they're some of the most miserable people in the world when their backs are acting up (for some of them, most of the time). Don't screw around with this. Good friend of mine just went out on medical retirement because of back problems.....Sucks to see a 40-year old man walking around like an 85-year old man. Whatever your doc tells you to do or not do...LISTEN TO HIM (or her).......

Wish you luck.

I've had lower back problems for 30 yrs due to a bike wreck that broke my L5 vertebrae. This is something new that stiffened my back. My bike injury affects my legs when it acts up. The x rays showed arthritic growth on my vertebrae that my doc thinks are causing my stiff back. Don't worry I'll listen to my doc. PT got me walking again after my bike wreck & I believe it will help me now.

Good luck with your back. I'd be interested to know if PT helps you. I have more than one problem with mine. If it works I'll check with my Dr. about doing the same myself.

I made my second PT Monday. I believe it will help but I'll have to do the exercises at home for a long time for it to completely cure it. I'm still stiff but I can tell what the workouts are doing. In fact I'm real stiff this morning from yesterdays workout but its in a different area of my back than before. Its gonna work it just will take time.

Its early in the game but more I exercise the better my back feels. It has taken the worst of the pain away. These first exercises are for pain relief & to loosen up my back. After I loosen up they will put me on the machines to build up my muscle strength. I can bend better & I am sleeping better. I believe it will work but it take a couple of weeks or more. I let myself get in bad shape before I went to the doc.

Well the PT seems to be working. My back feels much better but my wallet is much lighter. I don't know how many more PT sessions I have to go. I'm working with weights now so it should be over soon. Its good to get over the back pain & stiffness.

Retraining the body, and forcing it into recovery takes time and dedication.

DON'T forget to feed yourself well. To rebuild anything, the body needs raw materials.

One of my problems is I eat too much. I need to lose some weight to help my back. I don't know how long this PT will take but its really helping.

I suppose "Get plenty of rest" is a stupid thing to say, but there it is. Ever since the body builder days I went through, I look at all healing in terms of the same stimulation, feeding, and recovery cycle routine.
