I am pulling 5.0 out of my 1991 F-150. The problem is I can't brake lose the bolts that hold the exhaust pipe to the manifoil. I put wd 40,areokroil nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks Ralo
Yeah, it's probably not going to happen. if you've already tried a good rust penatrant (Not wd40 or any other penetrating oil, something that actually dissolves rust, I really like the CNH rust penetrant they have at New Holland/ Case IH ag dealers.) and let that sit over night, and you've used the biggest wrench you can find, preferably a breaker bar or impact, the only thing you're going to do now is twist off a manifold stud. Next I would try a torch to heat it up, if you have access to one. If that doesn't work, you'll have to chisel, grind, or split the nut off with a nut splitter. Otherwise, you're stuck with cutting the manifold studs and finding a replacement manifold at the junkyard. Believe me, the hardest part when working on these trucks is ALWAYS old, rusted stuck on fastners. Good luck.
When I did my exhaust mainfolds I used penetrating oil, heat, the whole nine yards. One thing I did that helped was turning the bolt carefully to the right until I heard it pop and then loosened it a little. When it got hard to turn again I would tighten it a little and then loosen it. I continued doing it and most of them eventually came out without breaking. The bolts that broke I had to drill out and run a tap through the threads. My bolts and studs were pretty damn rusted too. I would not go to the Ford dealer for new bolts either if you don't have to, they are REALLY expensive.
