Brush guard on 2wd...need opinions..

A guy that owns a local jewelry store here in town told me he had a stainless steel brush guard that came off his son's 2wd F-150. He said it would fit a 97 F-150 only and he said I could have it for 200 bucks.

His son leased a 97 2wd truck and purchased this brush guard for it and gave quite a bit of money for it. When the lease expired on the truck, he told his son to remove it and he would buy off of him in order to sell it instead of his son turning it in with the truck.

I have never seen a 2wd truck with a brush guard although my future brother-in-law and his son....both devout Ford fans....tell me they have. Around here it would offer protection from hitting deer I imagine. What do you guys think?
Would it look stupid?

Heck no, I had a 2wd 95 F-150 with a pushbar and it looked sweet. It does add some protection too. I shortend a toyota tercel by about 3' and the pushbar was the only thing on the front of my truck that didn't have to be replaced. It add's to the machismo of the truck. I'd go for it.

No, I don't think it would look stupid. Sounds like a good deal too.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to buy it off of him then. I hope it's an easy install!
Thanks again!

I got a bull guard on the 4X2 and it looks good. Id say go for it. For $200 the extra protections worth it.

I went and looked at the guard today. Just needs a dusting off so I'll pick it up on Tuesday. He has to move his 67 Corvette convertible out of the way after he moves his early 60s Chevy wrecker he's restoring that's sitting behind the Vette!

The Vette is niceeeeeeeee! Mint condition. Plus his son has his grandfather's 65 Mustang sitting in the yard that was bought new way back then. Niceeeee!

You know I wouldn't complain if you snapped & posted a couple pics of the wrecker and vette when you go back Tuesday.

Oh yeah! And the brush guard too.

I got a 89 F-150, and I don't know what would fit on the front of my truck. I would like to find soemthing, anyone have any idea? I'm with the others in here, I'd buy anything that will add protection to my investment. A deer can mess up a bunch of the frnt end if big enough. I hit one about a week ago in my wifes 04 Mazda Tribute. Luckily it hurt the deer more than it did the truck. The deer was hardly dead so I drug it off the road, and left it. Not much I could really do.

I don't know of the condition of your vehicle and all, or how handy you are, but I know I've helped construct at least 2 guards b4. If you have some decent tubing lying around, are fairly decent at welding, and have the time, I'd say try and fab one up. granted, i wouldn't personally do it on a new vehicle, but one that doesn't per se require a "top notch" job? peeeeeerfect project.

just a thought...

I'm not two bad at my welding but I can practice a little. My next door neighbor has astick and a mig welder he said I can use. He has a pacemaker and does not mess with the high electric things. He said I am welcome to borrow them, but I am curious to ask you what type or how thick does this tubing usually have to be? I'm new at this and wouldn't mind a go' round at this. I am very creative and if it will save me some money I will do it. Besides I don't have a new truck, but I want the best for it.
